4 Hopeless Treatments for Underarm Hyperhidrosis
Do you constantly have too much underarm perspiration? Also known as underarm hyperhidrosis, millions of people suffer from this condition. The causes can include genes, sweat gland problems, medications, and so on. However, the types of treatments available are also quite varied. Do yourself a favor and read up on the most effective treatments to date - Stop Sweating and Start Living is a good resource.
On the opposide end of the spectrum, here are some that many have used unsuccessfully to stop extra perspiration:
1. Undershirt(s).
Some people wear one (or even two) underarms under their main shirt or blouse, in order to absorb the excess sweat from their underarms. This can work if your perspiration problem isn`t too extreme. But in severe cases even two undershirts won`t be enough to conceal the fact that you have a sweating problem! Another problem is that this “treatment” is only cosmetic. Even if it works, it only gives the appearance that you`re not sweating gallons—it doesn`t solve the root cause of the problem. Instead, it simply tries to create an optical illusion without addressing the root of your underarm hyperhidrosis. There must be a better way!
2. Antiperspirants.
The ads for these products claim that they work. But how do they work, and do they work well? Here`s the nitty-gritty about antiperspirants. They contain some type of aluminum compound, which blocks the sweat glands partly. In theory, they`re supposed to reduce the amount of sweating that you do. These products can effectively block up to about one-third of your sweat glands. That`s good, right? Well, some experts believe that antiperspirants could be linked to breast cancer. Others are uneasy about these products` active ingredients, which could be linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer`s disease. The bottom line is that while antiperspirants can help to control underarm hyperhidrosis—they could cause conditions that are much worse!
3. Air-Conditioners.
Some people use air-conditioners whenever they can, to help dry the perspiration under their arms. Maybe they go through the rigmarole of raising their arms above the vents of their cars` air conditioning. Or maybe they try to go through the same procedure at work before everyone arrives. They may even do it in the middle of the day, if they don`t mind looking like they`re doing calisthenics in front of the air-conditioner.
Can this “treatment” work? Sure, it can. But just like the undershirts, it doesn`t address the true problem. The sufferer of underarm hyperhidrosis hasn`t dealt with what`s causing the excess perspiring. So the vicious cycle will go on and on—and on.
4. Showers.
Some people take multiple showers (or baths) during the day. The may take one before work or school, and one when they get home. And if they have the time to run home and hit the showers—one at lunchtime. Does this work? It may help to reduce underarm moisture and odor for a while—but the effects of this “treatment” won`t last long. Again, it addresses the symptoms of the sweating, rather than the actual cause of it.
If you suffer from underarm hyperhidrosis, the best treatments are those that deal with the cause of your perspiration in a natural and safe way. It`s that simple!
